Lycurgus Johnson and his father Joel,
both of Lakeport Plantation,
were part of a large family descended
from Col. Robert (Robin) Johnson and
Jemima Suggett Johnson of Scott County,
Kentucky. Many of the Johnsons'
kin by blood and marriage owned
plantations in Washington County,
Mississippi and Chicot County, Arkansas.
Descendants of these pioneering families
met for a Reunion Weekend as part of the
Lakeport Grand Opening festivities.
Participants included descendants
of many who lived and worked on the
Lakeport Plantation as enslaved
laborers or as tenant farmers.
