Lakeport Legacies · July 30 · Annie Read Reeves’ Chicot County Civil War Diary, 1861-1863 · Dr. Blake Wintory

Annie Read Reeves left  New Castle, Delaware in October 1861 with her four children and soon arrived at her brother’s Rossmere Plantation in Chicot County. Her diary, recently discovered, beings in October 1861 and ends abruptly in September 1863. Anne and her brother, George Read IV, were well pedigreed; they were grandchildren of George Read, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Dr. Blake Wintory, Lakeport director, will discuss what the diary tells about the Civil War in Chicot County and the other documents that tell us about Read family and the Rossmere plantation.
